Beauty is Judged by the Size of your Heart & not the Size of your Jeans

"I walked a lonely road where words would burn my soul.
Everything was seen from the outside and not the inbetween.
They think they know, but they only know what I choose to show.

And all around me spills out the truth.
I see for what people really are.
They're lazy, don't care about the inside.
They're superficial, don't care about those that don't fit the mould"

This particular post hits very close to home. The song posted above, is about a person who suffers at the hands of society. Society produce a mould for us all to fit and if we don't then we become easy targets for those who do fit the mould. The truth is, in today's society, appearance is seen as the first impression of people. If you are wearing a baggy jersey, your first impression is that you don't have any personal hygiene or maybe that you are too lazy to dress is 'normal' clothes.

This is close to home for me because I have been a victim of bullying due to my appearance. The sad fact of life is that almost everyone can say that at least one time or another, they were too victims. High school was a very hard time and is for a lot of adolescents as there are sudden social rules that one must abide to or you will fall prey to those who fit the mould. It is rather upsetting that appearance is looked at before personality. Some people who have unbelievable hearts are not even given a chance because they are too short, too fat, too tall, too something! When did our society become so materialistic and superficial?

My experiences have showed  just how superficial society can be. During my teen years, shyness, insecurities and having a lack of control of my life seemed to place me in the perfect position to be bullied. I was called all types of names by boys and girls. There was something inside of me though that wanted to fight back. I woke up not wanting to go to school but something told me to do it and something told me to make new friends. As I got older, this inner strength became stronger and stronger and by the time I finished school I was more confident and started to tackle my weaknesses one by one. The point of this story is that we all have this inner strength... it may present as very weak at first but we all have it. The trick is to grow it and to change your mindset that you will not be the victim and that you will not give up. As I got older, I noticed how people's behaviour changed with my new 'me'. Instead of people pulling a chair away as I sat, they started to pull it up for me. Compliments became regular and people became nicer and more helpful. Sometimes, people want to give up because it seems to hard to grow this inner strength.I'm here to tell whoever reads this, that I have been there and I have overcome it and so can you. Having this experience, which so many movies try to do like the ones that put people in a fat suit etc, illustrated to me just how superficial society is and that fitting the mould is actually rewarded. The truth is:
"People are going to label you. It is how you overcome those labels. That's what counts". Whatever your place is within society, you will have a label and it is important to build on that inner strength in order to be able to over come those labels.

Another quote I found is: "I am not your opinion of me. I am what I choose to be". It is your decision to be who you want to be. If you want to be a certain way that doesn't fit the mould then that is who you are and nobody should change that. Like the title of this post, Beauty should be judged according to someone's heart and personality rather then how thin or fat they are. Why should there be a mould... who sets this mould? Our duty today, should be to change people's perception so that personality is the first impression rather than appearance. We need to break this superficial mould. People should behave the SAME way to people all types of sizes and appearances because they are human and deserve that!

It is time for bullying to stop. It is time to break out of this mould and be whoever you want to be. Find your inner strength and you can overcome anything!
