“I guess you can’t be nostalgic for something you never left”

The title of this post is from the popular American series ‘Greek’. These words made a loud echo.

Ever notice when something special happens in your life, you will always remember the date or time of year it happened. Some people forget about it and remember it at that time or some just forget even if the date occurs again. From a sentimental point of view, I tend to remember all the special things in my life despite the bitter outcome. Feeling nostalgic over something or someone has its pros and cons. On one hand, you remember all the good and eliminate all the bad therefore determining the outcome of wishing you could go back. On the other hand, you tend to forget about all the good you have in your life at this present moment.
Referring specifically to this quote, Nostalgia is seen as a good thing. It is good to look back and see how much you have grown. It is good to look back and remember all the experiences whether good or bad that made you into who your are today. The problem is, when one dwells on something, for example a relationship, it is possible that nostalgia will not be experienced because how can you look back on something that you haven’t let go of, something that you have not yet to learn from because your grip on it is too tight.
When it come to that time of year and you are able to look back and say ‘wow, look how far I have come’ or ‘I wish I was stronger then’ and you able to assess your growth. Even if you feel you weren’t strong then, the mere fact that you are able to realise that opens a door to building on that strength. If that situation were ever to occur again, you will be able to overcome it because you have built up your threshold by experiencing it. That strength you once thought you never had will be present because you left that something and you were able to see your weakness allowing you to build yourself into a person that turned that weakness into a strength.

So when you are feeling nostalgic, remember the good, remember the bad and don’t forget how strong you truly are to have overcome it. If you feel that you are not nostalgic, may this post illustrate to you that it is possible to overcome anything.
You just need to loosen your grip, breathe, and believe that you can get over this and that one day you will look back at this and smile.
