Everything You Lost Along The Way

I want to be your jacket
Your shelter now
I want to be your laughter
When you’re feeling down, down

It’s cold out there where you are
You’re just getting by, so far
If you just try with me
Maybe in time you’ll see
I want to be everything you lost along the way
The song that you used to sing
And your favorite dream
I want to be everything you lost along the way

I want to be everything you lost along the way

I want to be your island
Your rest and peace
I want to be your silence
Surround you while you sleep, just breathe

You stopped where you fell before
You don’t want to hurt anymore

If you just try with me
Maybe in time you’ll see
I want to be everything you lost along the way
The song that you used to sing

And your favorite dream
I want to be everything you lost along the way
I want to be everything you lost along the way

Maybe you’re afraid of love and you’ll move on
Before you’re too far gone

But maybe you should just wait for once
‘Cause we’re almost, we’re so close

And if you just try with me
Maybe in time you’ll see
I want to be everything you lost along the way
The song that you used to sing
And your favorite dream
I want to be everything you lost along the way

If you just try with me
Maybe in time you’ll see
I want to be everything you lost along the way
The song that you used to sing
And your favorite dream

I want to be everything you lost along the way
(Tyrone Wells- Along The Way)

I  was just shuffling through a bunch of songs and I came across this song. The lyrics seem to tell a tale so common amongst us all. Through life and our experiences, the people we date, the friends we lose, we always lose some chunk of ourselves. How nice it would be to find that one person who is able to help restore all the chunks that seem to be missing. I don’t want to be a downer but as nice as the concept is, it is very hard to fill those empty spaces. I truly think that yes, while long ago we probably felt hurt and broken, it has made us into the people we are today. You live and you learn. You learn what type of people to avoid and what type of people you want to be around. You learn lessons that teach you the art of life. The lessons of life require us to go through a range of emotions. I always believed and still believe, rather love than not at all. Sometimes, a situation may offer such trauma and hurt that people would avoid living and taking risks because of the fear of feeling that way again. It takes time to heal but in order to heal successfully, one needs to get up again and carry on in life. Everyone deals with hurt in a different way, that is the beauty with human beings, we are all so different and unique. Feeling ‘not okay’ is okay sometimes but like I learned in psychology, there is a thin line that can easily be crossed. Not recovering from a fall such as being hurt by someone can be fatal. It can lead to so many downfalls. I’m here to tell you, whoever ends up reading this that yes, in life, we all feel sad at some point for whatever reason. We can find someone who makes us feel better but that person shouldn’t erase those scars because those scars make you who you are and these scars are forming you into a person that will overcome many more hurdles. Life is not going to throw anything at you that you can’t handle because you have within you everything you need to overcome whatever the world may throw at you. When you believe that, when you accept your scars, when your grip loosens on your heart, then that is when you start reaching your potential. In the meantime, go listen to this song as it is beautiful and hopefully it will remind you of this.
